Today, we welcome you to another of our Patreon mini-series: The Five Hive! Every Sunday, we debated our favourite fives - from football's best villains, to stadiums we want to visit.

Today, Marcus is joined by Pete and Andy to discuss the top five football games they've ever attended. Admittedly, we did end up focusing on a more pressing concern: has Andy ever been involved in football hooliganism? Pete's also got an interesting story about a trip to Japan... obviously!

The Football Ramble’s Guide To… The first ever World Cup

The World Cup is still brilliant, but it’s got its problems. And yet the issues we face today aren’t as confusing and downright obscene as those faced by the thirteen teams who competed in the first ever World Cup.

There was - we stress - some truly outrageous moments. Teams and fans missed their steamboats there, brawls erupted on the pitches and in the stands, kings picked some of the teams and a defeat in the final incited a literal military coup.

Marcus, Luke, Andy and Pete are your insightful tour guides!

If Arsenal could get Caicedo it would be the icing on the cake

Arsenal have already pocketed some money from Granit Xhaka’s sale, and they are also expected to make some good money from Thomas Partey’s sale.

These two leaving, and Kai Havertz and Declan Rice joining represent new beginnings at Arsenal’s midfield. Arteta is not taking chances with his engine room, and there’s talk of a third midfielder joining Havertz and Rice as transfer arrivals. There’s a belief that this third midfielder could be Romeo Lavia. But even so, Craig Burley still believes Moises Caicedo is the midfielder for Arteta.

Burley advises Arteta to use the funds from Partey’s and Xhaka’s sales and the remaining transfer budget to sign his top winter target, Moises Caicedo. On ESPN, he said, “If they can get rid of Xhaka, I don’t know if the move has happened, but I think he is going to Leverkusen. If they can sell Thomas Partey as well, who had a pretty good season to the last sort of ten or 12 games. There is talk of Saudi Arabia for him as well.

“But if they could shift those out for a bit more money, then you would be asking for another player, and it would be Caicedo from Brighton.

“He is 21. He can defend. Get forward. Very good on the ball. He still has more to come out of him, and he has the energy to get around the pitch. I think that would be a better balance between him and Declan Rice, with Odegaard somewhere floating around.”

Ivan Fresneda has captured the attention of Arsenal as they seek to bolster their squad during the current transfer window. The full-back had an impressive season at Real Valladolid, despite the club’s relegation from the Spanish top flight.

Fresneda’s performances have established him as one of the most promising young talents in La Liga. Arsenal has been monitoring his progress for several months and is now faced with competition from clubs such as Juventus and Borussia Dortmund in the race to secure his signature.

Currently representing Spain at the U19 Euros, Fresneda has been approached about his future amid interest from multiple clubs.

Fresneda said as quoted by Tuttomercatoweb:

“The truth is that right now I’m very concentrated on this competition. I’m very concentrated on the European Championship, after this competition I will do all the necessary assessments with the club.”

Jaap Stam assures Arsenal of the quality of Jurrien Timber

Jaap Stam, the renowned Dutch defender, has provided assurance to Arsenal that Jurrien Timber will meet expectations at the Emirates.

The Gunners are in the process of finalising the transfer of the Ajax player to further strengthen their defence, following their second-place finish in the league last season under Mikel Arteta’s guidance.

Timber was on the verge of a move to Manchester United last season but opted to remain in the Netherlands as he felt he wasn’t quite ready for the switch. Despite Ajax not having the most successful season, Arsenal has recognised Timber’s potential and views him as a key addition to their first-team squad.

With his experience and expertise, Stam has now offered reassurances to Arsenal that Timber is a top-class defender.

Arsenal enters the race to sign FC Porto striker

Arsenal has been one of the busiest clubs in the Premier League during the current transfer window, as Mikel Arteta aims to enhance his squad. Despite their ongoing activities, it appears that Arsenal is not finished with their transfer business just yet.

According to a new report from O Jogo, the Gunners have set their sights on Mehdi Taremi from FC Porto. Arsenal has entered the race to secure the services of the highly regarded striker during this transfer window.

Taremi is well-known throughout Europe and has notably scored some impressive goals in the Champions League over the years. Arsenal sees his experience in European competition as invaluable, especially as they make their return to the tournament in the upcoming campaign.

With an impressive record of 31 goals in 51 games last season, Taremi has garnered interest from several top clubs across the continent. Arsenal has now joined the pursuit of the talented striker, as they seek to strengthen their attacking options.

Granit Xhaka insists he has happy memories from his time at Arsenal

Granit Xhaka, the Bayer Leverkusen midfielder, has openly acknowledged the positive memories he holds from his time at Arsenal. Xhaka recently departed the Gunners to join the German club, becoming one of their key signings for the summer.

Throughout his nearly decade-long tenure at the Emirates, Xhaka proved to be a pivotal player for Arsenal, particularly during Mikel Arteta’s tenure as manager. Despite having one season remaining on his contract with Arsenal, the club permitted his departure after securing deals for players such as Declan Rice and Kai Havertz.

As Xhaka embarks on the next chapter of his career with Bayer Leverkusen, he expressed his enjoyment of the time he spent at Arsenal.

He said as quoted by SRF.ch: “There are a lot of positive memories. Personally, I and my family spent seven wonderful years in London.

“I’ve never played for a foreign club for so long. My graduation here, my last game, all the news – wow, that gives me goosebumps.”

“It was so, so, so hard”, Saliba discusses his injury absence last season

William Saliba missed Arsenal’s final few games of last season through injury and admits it hurt not to be able to help the team.

The defender was a key player for the club as Arsenal almost won the league and even his teammates will admit their form tanked when he got injured.

Liverpool remains ahead of Arsenal in the race for relegated midfielder

Romeo Lavia, the talented Belgian midfielder, has caught the attention of top clubs such as Arsenal and Liverpool as he seeks an immediate return to the Premier League.

Lavia was a standout performer for Southampton, who were recently relegated, and it is widely recognised that he possesses immense potential. Southampton anticipates that a prominent club will secure his services in the near future.

While Arsenal has already strengthened their midfield, the departure of Granit Xhaka and the potential sale of Thomas Partey may create a need for a new midfielder. As a result, Arsenal has targeted Lavia as a potential addition. However, Liverpool is also keen on the young midfielder.

According to Teamtalk, Liverpool is currently leading the race to sign Lavia. The midfielder is eager to join any club that demonstrates a serious intention to include him in their squad.

Do you think Arsenal overpaid for Declan Rice?

Arsenal has splashed out around £105 million to add Declan Rice to their squad from West Ham and hopes to announce the midfielder’s capture soon.

He will become the most expensive Englishman in history and there are question marks over Arsenal’s willingness to spend that much on him.

Rice has never played in the Champions League and only just won his first trophy with West Ham. Regardless, he has cost Arsenal more than players with better resumes have cost elsewhere.

Forbes has analysed the transfer and compared it to Newcastle’s capture of Sandro Tonali, who cost the Magpies roughly £65m and claimed Arsenal overpaid for Rice.

They accept Rice is a high-value player partly because he is English, but by many standards, Arsenal was made to go overboard in their spending for the English midfielder.
